National Reading Month

About

March is National Reading Month, which celebrates the privilege of literacy and encourages readers, young and old, to engage in reading. We're celebrating all month-long through social media posts featuring readers across our district, a scholar-recommended booklist, and other highlights!

Federal Way Public Schools is committed to helping scholars develop strong reading skills, starting in elementary through high school graduation. Not only does reading serve as a healthy exercise for our minds by improving creativity, critical thinking skills, and concentration, but it also helps expand our perspective on others and the world around us. It can help us connect with others, deepen empathy, and so much more!

Did you know? Daily reading can improve comprehension skills and academic performance across all subjects.(1)

That's why FWPS has built-in ELA learning targets into our strategic plan to support literacy and reading development at every stage of student learning as noted in Goal 1 and Goal 4 of our strategic plan. With support, scholars will meet or exceed grade-level standards.
