Principal's Message

  • Dr. Jordanne E. Nevin, Woodmont Principal Dear Woodmont Parents, Guardians, and Families,

Summer is coming to a close and the start of the school year is just around the comer. It is with great excitement that I welcome your scholars back to school. We have had a busy summer at Woodmont and are excited to launch the school year focused on Project Based Learning (PBL) and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). In July, every classroom teacher, our resource room specialist, our interventionists, our ELL specialist, our instructional coach, and all administrators participated in deep new learning about PBL and STEM. Woodmont K-8 has partnered with New Tech Network (NTN) and Educurious.

An NTN school focuses on a model for instruction and scholar engagement that sets us apart from
    traditional schools.

o Engaging and rigorous instruction: PBL is at the heart of our instructional approach. PBL uses
technology and inquiry to engage scholars with issues and questions that are relevant and authentic to their lives.
o Collaborative culture: We teach and cultivate a culture that empowers scholars and teachers.
Our unique identity promotes trust, respect, responsibility, and kindness. Scholars have ownership, voice, and choice in their learning experiences and are given a level of responsibility similar to what they might experience in a professional workplace.
o Technology that enables: Use of technology that enables learning and enhances experiences supports our innovative approach to instruction and culture. Appropriate integration of technology allows scholars to become self-directed learners. All scholars in grade 3-8 have a 1:1 device. Scholars in grade K-2 have access to technology both in their classrooms and on carts that are shared among grade levels. We also have a new STEM Lab that provides scholars access to a variety of tools to enhance theirlearning and development.

Outside of the building, you may notice some minor changes to our environment. We have a beautiful new Gazebo on the playground, and updated grounds under the big toy. Thank you, Woodmont PTA, who financially supported the building of the gazebo, as well as FWPS Maintenance and Operations who built and installed it. You may also see new Buddy Benches on our playground. Thomas Jefferson High School scholar, Matt Boehme, designed and constructed our Buddy Benches, and we could not be more thankful.

We are all geared up for a fantastic school year. Let's start the year off right by ensuring that every
scholar is at school on time, all day, every day, and that every scholar is reading or being read to for 30 minutes at home every day.

    In Partnership,
    Dr. Jordanne E. Nevin
