Principal's Message

  • Principal Joe Kosty

Welcome to Camelot Elementary! I am excited and honored to join such an incredible school community. I know that the 2017-2018 school year is going to be a great one! Our new assistant principal, Natalee Daniels, and I are excited to focus on early learning and the whole child.

I am coming to Camelot with a range of experience in education that includes elementary and middle schools in Federal Way and Kent. Most recently, I was the planning principal at Saghalie Middle School and the assistant principal of Nautilus K-8. Before coming to Federal Way, I was a teacher, interventionist, and dean of students at an elementary in Kent. I was born and raised in this area and am excited to be giving back to the community I grew up in. As a student myself, I attended several Federal Way elementary schools before moving to Kent, WA. I went to Washington State University for my bachelor’s degree, and I earned my masters in educational administration from Grand Canyon University. I live close by with my wife Megan and daughter Kayla. Kayla is 2-years old and excited to possibly join our own preschool one day! As I begin my principalship at Camelot, I will always keep in mind that I want to lead a school that I am proud to have my own daughter attend.

I have loved working in Federal Way and with our district Strategic Plan. With the support of our district plan, I have found myself focused on equity, collaboration and high academic and social-emotional expectations for all our scholars. This year, we will be continuing the work at Camelot in ensuring that every scholar acquires the academic and social-emotional skills to be successful beyond 3rd grade, and that each scholar knows, understands, and embraces his/her own and others’ cultural backgrounds and learning needs, in order to advocate for self and others.

Our Camelot community has played a huge role in the success of our scholars. I am excited to partner with our community in a variety of ways this year. Whether you join our PTSA, support W.A.T.C.H dog dads, join Natalee and I for tea and treats at Homewood Terrace, or come to events like STEM night or our Carnival it all helps! I am also excited to hear from you what other ways we can get families/caregivers involved. Your voice matters and we are excited to hear what you have to say. Please reach out at any time.

    In partnership,

    Joe Kosty, Principal
