District Headlines & Features
I am so excited to welcome all of our incoming 9th graders and new students, and to welcome back all of our upper classmen for the 2021-2022 school year! This year, we will continue to advance our work as part of the Federal Way Public Schools Strategic Plan with a focus on Goal 2, The Whole Child and on Goal 5, Persistence to Graduation.
Families, we know you are starting your back-to-school shopping soon so I wanted to let you know where you can access our school supply list for next year. As you may know, Decatur is an AVID school which means we implement researched, vetted academic and organizational strategies school wide. One of those strategies is the use of the AVID Binder. At Decatur, we call it the P.R.O.U.D. Binder, and it is an expectation that all students have and utilize this important tool. You can access our school supply list for all of the required items to include in the binder on our website at https://www.fwps.org/decatur.
In addition, our website is also a great resource to find out about the activities and events happening at Decatur. You can also set-up and access your ParentVue account from the website. ParentVue is a vital communication tool provided by our district that allows you to monitor your scholar’s grades and attendance in real time. I hope you all are having a great summer, and we can’t wait to see you all!!
Fall Re-Opening: Using guidance from OSPI and the Department of Health, we are planning for a safe return that prioritizes learning. In accordance with Gov. Inslee and OSPI direction, we will be opening the year with full face to face instruction. Please stay tuned for more information to come in the coming weeks.
Health and Safety and Re-Opening: Our scholars’ health and safety are priority. As we prepare for our face to face fall re-opening, our district is hard at work developing health and safety protocols which include social distancing guidelines, arranging schedules that minimize high traffic contact, considering bus transportation and engaging in deep cleaning protocols to minimize the spread of germs. As part of ensuring a safe learning environment, all scholars and staff will be required to wear face masks. Please take the time this summer to both reinforce and practice the wearing of face masks. FWPS will continue to place health and safety as a priority as we look forward to welcoming our scholars back on September 1st. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
