School Information

What is Special About Our School?

Woodmont Elementary provides students with a warm, safe, and supportive environment that enables them to continually work toward improved academic achievement. This school serves a multi-ethnic population of 410 students. This diverse student population gives everyone connected with the school the rich opportunity to learn about world cultures.

Classrooms are composed of gifted students, students who need special assistance, and students who are striving for excellence in math, music, science, writing, and speaking. It is a challenge to meet the needs of all these students, but Woodmont staff uses a wide variety of teaching and learning strategies so that students can attain academic and teamwork skills that allow them to grow. Students are thoughtfully placed where they have the most opportunity to succeed. Different teaching strategies are used to target varied learning styles and abilities.

Woodmont practices a comprehensive student discipline plan, which emphasizes consistency and promotes a positive attitude. This program assists students in being responsible for their behavior.  It also promotes direct communication between the parents and school staff.

Technology is integrated throughout the curriculum. Using the Internet helps students develop good research skills. Students use word processing programs to produce reports, graphs, and slide shows plus they use a variety of multimedia software to compile information into meaningful presentations.

The PTA provides money for enrichment activities, gives scholarships, and sponsors the Read and Lead program. Community and parent volunteers tutor, lead small groups, and read with students.

No Child Left Behind Report Card

The No Child Left Behind Act requires all schools and school districts in the United States to prepare annual reports for parents and the public detailing their academic achievement. The State Superintendent of Public Instruction’s web site makes this information available on-line. Find your school’s report card on-line at http://reportcard.ospi.k12.wa.us/  Click on Federal Way in the “Summary” box, then choose your school from the list. You may also request a paper copy of the report card at your school’s office. For more information about the NCLB Act, go to http://www.nclb.gov/index.html.
