What is Special About Our School?
Olympic View Elementary houses approximately 490 students. Built in 1962, its classrooms are more spacious than current building codes demand.
This school accommodates a cultural and economic diversity truly representative of America. Olympic View families consider this diversity an asset and an advantage in promoting world-class skills for all students. The staff also shares this belief and values each child’s unique and positive contribution to the school climate.
Olympic View’s mission statement reflects a commitment to both academic and emotional intelligence with purpose and unity: staff, parents, community, and students are committed to creating minds that think and hearts that care. The school is friendly, and the staff is eager to welcome families into the Olympic View learning team.
The “Welcome Room” helps make the transition into the school relaxed and comfortable. As part of the Success For All program, the Family Support Team visits all incoming first graders, promotes parent involvement, uses strategies to meet the needs of individual students having difficulty, implements plans for improved attendance, and uses community and school resources to strengthen educational programs.
On a daily basis, students with similar reading abilities meet in small groups for 90 minutes of learning. Students who need that extra boost are given one-on-one tutoring
Parent and community input is essential to ensure appropriate direction. The School Leadership Team is one way to become involved in the decision-making process at Olympic View. We invite you to contact the school for details if you would like to participate. No Child Left Behind Report Card
The No Child Left Behind Act requires all schools and school districts in the United States to prepare annual reports for parents and the public detailing their academic achievement. The State Superintendent of Public Instruction’s web site makes this information available on-line. Find your school’s report card on-line at http://reportcard.ospi.k12.wa.us/ Click on Federal Way in the “Summary” box, then choose your school from the list. You may also request a paper copy of the report card at your school’s office. For more information about the NCLB Act, go to http://www.nclb.gov/index.html.
