What is Special About Our School?
This year Lakeland begins its 55th year of “building the future.” This school is proud of its history and its tradition of quality education delivered by a dedicated and professional staff and supported by an active community.
Lakeland’s enthusiastic spirit is felt as soon as you enter its doors. This is a child-centered environment where student needs are given the highest priority. Students are encouraged to grow in all subject areas, and each child is given the help he or she needs to be successful.
Lakeland holds classes for 390 Kindergarten through 5th grade students plus two sessions of Integrated Preschool. Many of our students speak languages other than English and represent a multitude of cultures from around the world.
The first and most important goal that we pursue is helping all students develop strong reading, math, and writing skills. Well-trained teachers and para-educators, mixed with parental support, keep students moving toward this goal.
In addition to Lakeland’s focus on the “basics,” we encourage other areas of enrichment. The school offers a science fair, student clubs, participation in the annual PTA “Reflections” contest, and a self-manager program. Extended Learning Opportunities and many other programs and special events are available for students and their families. No Child Left Behind Report Card
The No Child Left Behind Act requires all schools and school districts in the United States to prepare annual reports for parents and the public detailing their academic achievement. The State Superintendent of Public Instruction’s web site makes this information available on-line. Find your school’s report card on-line at http://reportcard.ospi.k12.wa.us/ Click on Federal Way in the “Summary” box, then choose your school from the list. You may also request a paper copy of the report card at your school’s office. For more information about the NCLB Act, go to http://www.nclb.gov/index.html.
