Student Walking Distances - 8101

Commensurate with the district's financial ability, it is the intent of the district to provide to and from school transportation service to all eligible students on an equitable basis.

1. Eligible students are those who reside more than one radius mile measured as a straight line from their assigned school to their residence.

2. Eligible students may also be those who reside within the first radius mile of the school of attendance, and whose walking route to school is evaluated by state guidelines as hazardous. These routes are called "safety routes".

3. Students with a disability, or those who attend school based on an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) may be eligible for transportation service without regard for the distance limitation, depending upon the capability of the student.

4. Parents of students who choose to enroll their children in a school within the district that is outside the service area of their residence will be responsible for the transportation of their children to that school.
