Corrective Action for Student Misconduct
3300
In order to preserve a beneficial learning environment for all students and to maintain good order and discipline in each classroom, the superintendent/designee shall develop written procedures for administering corrective action at each school within the district. Such procedures shall be developed with the participation of parents/guardians and the community, and shall provide that the teacher, principal or designee, and other school authorities make every reasonable attempt to involve parents/guardians and the student in the resolution of student misconduct problems.
The written rules of the district and the procedures for imposing corrective action shall be made available annually to students and parent/guardian of the district. These general rules of student conduct, responsibilities and rights shall apply to all students attending the Federal Way School District.
The staff has discretionary powers within the limits of existing policies and procedures in the establishment and maintenance of proper student conduct. Within each school, the school principal or designee shall determine that appropriate student conduct is established and enforced. To assist the principal in carrying out the intent of this delegated responsibility, the principal and the certificated employees in the school building shall confer at least annually to develop and/or review building disciplinary standards and uniform enforcement of these standards.
Students shall be subject to corrective action when they have committed offenses or violations of rules as defined in written district policy and procedures, and federal, state or local law while on school property, on school sponsored transportation, at school events off school property, and off school property if the conduct materially and substantially affects the educational process or district operations. Corrective action employed by school staff shall be in accordance with WAC 392-400.
