School Performance Evaluation
2090P

Each school within the Federal Way School District shall conduct a self-study at least every seven years with emphasis given to achieving educational excellence, equity, and building stronger links with the community. The self-study process shall include the following:

A. the participation of staff, parents, community members, and students where appropriate to their age;

B. a comprehensive assessment of the instructional program, staff, services, learning resources, student activities, and facilities;

C. the implementation of student grade span expectations or standards in the course(s)/subject(s) taught in grades kindergarten through twelve in the common schools. This program shall be reviewed by the building steering committee in accordance with a time schedule the district has established for their self-study. Periodic review shall take place at least every seven years.

D. an analysis of class size and staffing patterns within the school district; and

E. the development of a plan for program improvement.

If a school does not make substantial progress toward their improvement goals, a "Plan for Improvement" will be developed under the direction of the superintendent/designee. The "Plan for Improvement" may include assistance through flexible resource allocations, assistance with planning, clarity, focus and staff development resources. A school not showing substantial improvement within 12 to 24 months after a "Plan for Improvement" has been put into place may face significant intervention from the district including potentially a complete redesign of their school program and assigned staff.
