Change in Residence/Resignation - 1112
If a Board member’s permanent residence ceases to be in the director district but not out of the school district, he/she may continue to serve on the school board, notwithstandingRCW 42.12.010 (4): First, if redrawing director district boundaries caused the change, the director shall serve out his/her term. Second, a director who no longer lives within the director district from which he/she was elected, shall retain the position until a successor is elected and assumes office. When a director stands for election depends upon (a) how many years of the current term he/she has completed, and (b) whether the change in residence occurred before or after the regular filing period for school directors. The director may complete the term if the change in residency occurred after the filing period and if he/she has already completed two years of the term.
Upon receipt of a director’s written resignation, the Board shall consider the resignation at its next regularly scheduled meeting. The Board shall then accept the resignation by formal action and declare the Board position vacant unless the resignation is withdrawn any time prior to the Board’s action.
