i-Safe
What is iSafe?
i-Safe strives to protect the online experiences of students through education of teachers and students. i-Safe is a non-profit organization and provides teachers in Federal Way Public Schools with K-12 curriculum regarding cyber safety. To access the i-Safe account that has been created for you, retrieve the i-Safe curriculum that is available, and complete the optional i-Safe certification, view secure directions on the District's Intranet (Internal Link).
iSafe in FWPS
The iSafe curriculum will gradually be implemented into classes when we learn the requirements from the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction.
The goal is to have all FWPS staff certified to teach iSafe. Even though very few staff will actually deliver the iSafe curriculum to students the responsibility to recognize the effects of cyber bullying belongs to all staff. Additionally, the training includes safe-guarding personal identification on-line, virus protection, and the implications of information posted on web sites such as Facebook.
It takes about 4 hours and 15 minutes to watch all of the videos and they must be watched in sequence. Make sure you don’t close the video window until a box has appeared saying you have received credit for watching the video.
The videos make many references to on-line identity programs, mentor programs, and assemblies. At this time we have no plans to implement any of these. You’ll hear about submitting an Implementation plan. This isn’t necessary because we have submitted a district level plan.
The curriculum posted is optional at this time and contains what we believe will be the minimum requirements from OSPI.
There are six large topics in the I-Safe curriculum:
