Family and Consumer Sciences Education uses an integrative approach to the relationships among individuals, families, and communities, and the environments in which they function.

1. The student uses a variety of ways to communicate ideas, which empower, strengthen, and improve the lives of individuals, families, and communities.

  • 1. Demonstrate communication skills that contribute to positive relationships
  • 2. Examine how individuals and families make choices to satisfy needs and wants

2. The student acquires the knowledge and skills necessary to manage human, economic, material, and information resources to improve the quality of life for individuals and families.

  • 1. Implement decisions about providing safe and nutritious food for individuals and families
  • 2. Implement decisions about purchasing, creating, or maintaining clothing
  • 3. Investigate the impact of heredity and environment on human growth and development

3. The student applies Family and Consumer Sciences Education knowledge and skills to reason and solve problems,

  • 1. Demonstrate management of financial resources to meet the goals of individuals and families across the life span
  • 2. Evaluate effective conflict prevention and management techniques
  • 3. Assess the impact of food and diet fads, food addictions, and eating disorders on wellness

4. The student applies strategies for balancing home, school, and work responsibilities.

  • 1. Demonstrate job seeking and job keeping skills
  • 2. Identify job opportunities by listening to guest speakers who explain openings for professional careers
  • 3. Demonstrate effective work skills individually and as a team member
  • 4. Demonstrate leadership skills and abilities in the workplace and community
  • 5. Demonstrate work ethics and professionalism
  • 6. Examine expectations and responsibilities of parenting
