Family and Consumer Sciences Education uses an integrative approach to the relationships among individuals, families, and communities, and the environments in which they function.
1. The student uses a variety of ways to communicate ideas, which empower, strengthen, and improve the lives of individuals, families, and communities.
- 1. Examine the use of resources in making choices that satisfy needs and wants of individuals and families
- 2. Evaluate nutrition principles, food plans, preparation techniques, and specialized dietary plans
- 3. Appraise various interior furnishings, appliances, and equipment, which provide cost and quality choices
2. The student acquires the knowledge and skills necessary to manage human, economic, material, and information resources to improve the quality of life for individuals and families.
- 1. Examine the need for personal and family financial planning
- 2. Demonstrate sanitation procedures for a clean and safe environment
- 3. Assess human needs, safety, space, and technology as they relate to housing and interior design goals
3. The student applies Family and Consumer Sciences Education knowledge and skills to reason and solve problems,
- 1. Arrange furniture placement with reference to principles of design, traffic flow, activity, and existing architectural features
- 2. Determine conditions and practices that promote safe food handling
- 3. Apply consumer skills to acquire and maintain transportation that meets the needs of individuals and family members
4. The student applies strategies for balancing home, school, and work responsibilities.
- 1. Examine potential career choices to determine the knowledge, skills, and attitudes associated with each
- 2. Demonstrate job seeking and job keeping skills
- 3. Demonstrate teamwork skills in community and workplace settings
