Unifying Focus: Family & Consumer Sciences Education (FACSE) uses an integrative approach to the relationships among individuals, families, and communities and the environments in which they function.

1. The student uses a variety of ways to communicate ideas that empower, strengthen, and improve the lives of individuals and families.

  • 1.1 Determines the roles and functions of individuals engaged in textiles and apparel careers.
  • 1.2 Demonstrates design concepts with material or computer, using drafting/or flat pattern making technique.

2. The student acquires the knowledge and skills necessary to manage human, economic, material, and information resources to improve the quality of life for individuals and families.

  • 2.1 Assesses affects of textile characteristics on design, construction, care, use, and maintenance of products.
  • 2.2 Examines the ways in which fabric, texture, and pattern can affect visual appearance.
  • 2.3 Applies basic and complex color schemes and color theory to develop and enhance visual effects.

3. The student applies the Family Consumer Science (FCS) knowledge and skills to reason and solve problems.

  • 3.1 Uses a variety of equipment, tools, and supplies for apparel and textile construction, alteration, and repair.

4. The student applies strategies for balancing the responsibilities of home, school, and work.

  • 4.1 Analyzes career paths within the fashion design and apparel industry.
  • 4.2 Identifies job opportunities by listening to guest speakers in the field of FACS who explain opening for professional careers
  • 4.3 Demonstrates effective work skills individually and as a team member
  • 4.4 Demonstrates leadership skills and abilities
  • 4.5 Demonstrates work ethics and professionalism
