Sixth Grade Learning Expectations
The learning expectations listed below are for sixth grade. Students will be assessed based on their progress toward meeting these grade-level expectations. Promotion will be based on the mastery of the reading expectations.
Social Studies Expectations - The World
History
- 1.1 Understands the world has changed over time (through the study of ancient civilizations, the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, the Industrial Revolution, and the world today).
- 1.2 Comprehends that historical events can affect people in different ways and may be interpreted in different ways.
- 1.3 Recognizes technology as the symbol of an industrial nation.
Geography
- 2.1 Uses and expands map and globe skills.
- 2.2 Recognizes how their physical environments influences the developments of countries.
- 2.3 Recognizes the impact a society has on its physical environment.
Civics
- 3.1 Recognizes the people world-wide share rights and responsibilities of citizenship.
- 3.2 Understands that current governments owe much to governments of the past.
- 3.3 Knows that countries are governed in different ways.
- 3.4 Helps others through school/community service.
Economics
- 4.1 Examines the effects of world supply and demand on personal and national use of resources.
- 4.2 Understands the effects of individual demands for goods, services, and natural resources.
- 4.3 Examines the interdependence of countries of the world.
