I. The student examines and understands the major artistic trends and styles, eras, chronology, and relationships in Western art history.
- 1. Examine, identify,
and describe art forms that will include:
- Cave paintings
- Fertility objects
- Egyptians and Sumerians
- Ancient Greek
- Ancient Roman
- Medieval
- Renaissance
- Mannerism, Baroque; Rococo; Dutch genre; Neoclassicism; Realism
- Early Modern: Impressionism; Post-Impressionism; Expressionism; Cubism; Dada/Surrealism/Fantasy; Futurism
- 20th Century American art & architecture
- Contemporary art forms
- Public art
- 2. Show chronological
order and relationships between art forms through:
- Creation of visual timelines
- Communication of the influence and response of one artistic era to another
2. The student will analyze how art expresses and reflects its historical context and culture.
- 1. Discuss art forms in their historical context and explain how artists' expression reflects their culture
3. The student will effectively communicate his/her understanding of the history of Western art in written and verbal form.
- 1. Write thesis papers based on research and personal observation, conduct oral presentations based on a thesis and complete projects with visual and written components.
4. The student will understand the career possibilities connected with the arts.
- 1. Study careers in the arts through projects, guest speakers, and field trips.
