Science

Physics

1. The student understands and uses scientific concepts and principles.

  • 1. Describes the average speed, direction of motion, and average acceleration of objects. (Possible Examples: Increasing Acceleration, Decreasing Acceleration, Constant Acceleration)
  • 2. Creates, uses, and analyses graphs displaying scientific information.
  • 3. Identifies various forces and their relative magnitudes, then predicts and describes resulting behaviors.
  • 4. Applies the Laws of Conservation of energy and momentum to given situations.
  • 5. Designs simple electrical circuits demonstrating the practical uses of electricity
  • 6. Describes the characteristics of waves and transfer through waves. (Possible Examples: Water, Light, Sound)
  • 7. Describes the implications of heat flow and resulting temperature and phase changes.
2. The student conducts scientific investigations.
  • 1. Utilizes the scientific method to generate questions, design, and conduct science investigations using appropriate equipment, data collection techniques, and safety procedures. (2.1)
  • 2. Uses evidence from science investigations to develop explanations and make further predictions. (3.1)
  • 3. Uses evidence from science investigations to propose and evaluate the possible applications, limitations, and consequences of solutions to a problem. (2.3)

3. The student understands the nature and contexts of science and technology.

  • 1. Understands that science, technology, society, careers, and other disciplines are interrelated. (3.1)
  • 2. Analyzes and reflects on results from investigations based on scientific arguments and explanations. (3.2)
  • 3. Understands that science involves testing and revising theories in order to better understand the natural world. (3.3)
