Sixth Grade Learning Expectations

The learning expectations listed below are for sixth grade. Students will be assessed based on their progress toward meeting these grade-level expectations. Promotion will be based on the mastery of the reading expectations.

Physical Education Expectations

1. The student acquires the knowledge and skills necessary to maintain an active life: movement, physical fitness, and nutrition.

  • 1.1 Uses a variety of locomotor skills in combination during activities or modified games
  • 1.2 Demonstrates mastery in at least two non-locomotor skill in modified games and maintains proficiency in others
  • 1.3 Assists other students in applying class rules and safety procedures in a variety of games or fitness activities
  • 1.4 Assists classmates in sportspersonship and cooperation in a variety of small group activities or modified game situations
  • 1.5 Evaluates own performance based on results of FITNESSGRAM Test and identifies areas in need of improvement using appropriate vocabulary
  • 1.6 Continues to record the amount of moderate to vigorous physical activity outside of class, categorizes them into the four areas of Health Related Fitness and relates them back to his/her personal fitness goals
  • 1.7 Records and analyzes personal diet based on Food Guide Pyramid categories and personal fitness goals
  • 1.8 Explains several benefits associated with regular activity and proper nutrition throughout life

2. The student effectively analyzes health and safety information to develop health and fitness plans based on life goals.

  • 2.1 Evaluates his or her own activity level outside of class and the positive and negative consequences associated with that amount of physical activity
  • 2.2 Develops a fitness plan for a chosen career based on the relationship between job activity level and individual fitness needs
  • 2.3 Develops, monitors, and evaluates a fitness plan for regular participation in physical activities based on personal fitness goals
