Sixth Grade Learning Expectations
The learning expectations listed below are for sixth grade. Students will be assessed based on their progress toward meeting these grade-level expectations. Promotion will be based on the mastery of the reading expectations.
Writing Expectations
1. The student writes clearly and effectively.
Concept and Design

- 2. Demonstrates a consistency in focus, including elaboration of the topic or theme.
- 3. Effectively uses transitional sentences and phrases to connect ideas and paragraphs.
Style
- 4. Chooses precise language well suited to the topic or audience.
- 5. Varies sentence length and structure.
Conventions
- 6. Knows and applies correct spelling for age-level words.
- 7. Knows and applies conventional grammar.

2. The student uses a variety of forms for different audiences and purposes.
