Students will demonstrate previous grade skills.
1. The student uses listening and observation skills to gain understanding.
- 1. Analyzes and reflects on ideas while paying attention and listening in a variety of situations.
- 2. Explores different perspectives on complex issues through viewing a range of visual texts.
- 3. Listens for, identifies, and explains: information vs. persuasion, inferences, emotive rhetoric vs. reasoned arguments.
- 4. Paraphrases to expand and refine understanding.
- 5. Makes judgments and inference.s
- 6. Asks questions to refine and verify hypotheses.
2. The student communicates ideas clearly and effectively.
- 1. Communicates for a broad range of purposes: to reflect, make inferences, interview, influence, etc.
- 2. Creates a comprehensive and organized presentation with a clear sequencing of ideas and transitions.
- 3. Uses logic, arguments, or appeals to persuade others.
- 4. Uses language and voice well-suited to the topic and audience.
- 5. Demonstrates sophisticated use of available technology to present ideas and concepts.
3. The student uses communication strategies and skills to work effectively with others.
- 1. Shows awareness of cultural premises, assumptions, and world views in order to effectively communicate cross-culturally.
- 2. Makes individual contributions to the group and extend the contribution of others.
- 3. Encourages group members to offer ideas and points of view.
- 4. Seeks agreement and solutions through discussion by advocating, implementing, and evaluating a plan.
4. The student analyzes and evaluates the effectiveness of formal and informal communication.
- 1. Assesses own strengths and weaknesses as a presenter.
- 2. Seeks, evaluates, and applies feedback.
