1. The student acquires the knowledge and skills necessary to maintain an active, healthy lifestyle, reduce health risks, and live safely.
Performance Indicators:
- 1. Understand nutrition and food nutrients and how they effect the body.
- 2. Identify factors that contribute to poor body image and eating disorders.
- 3. Recognize emergency situations at school, home, and in the community that may require First Aid or CPR.
- 4. Demonstrate proper CPR, airway management, and rescue breathing procedures.
- 5. Identify features and functions of key body systems included in relevant topic areas.
- 6. Identify risk factors of communicable disease, including STDs and HIV disease.
- 7. Understand fetal development and the birth process.
- 8. Assess situations that could be considered malicious harassment and develop strategies demonstrating respect for each other.
2. The student analyzes and evaluates the impact of real-life influences on health and well being.
Performance Indicators:
- 1. Gather and analyze a variety of health information to make informed decisions.
- 2. Understand how emotions influence decision-making.
- 3. Evaluate strategies and develop a plan to manage stress constructively.
- 4. Analyze factors that contribute to feelings of isolation and depression.
- 5. Discuss warning signs and how to access resources to prevent suicide.
- 6. Recognize the physical, mental, and social implications of prescription and illegal drug use and misuse.
3. The student effectively analyzes health and safety information to develop a health and wellness plan on life goals.
Performance Indicators:
- 1. Identify and develop long and short term goals for life.
- 2. Analyze health information, products, and services while considering media and cultural influences.
- 3. Assess personal health needs and resources available.
- 4. Analyze and evaluate the validity of health information, products, and services.
4. The student will understand and apply interpersonal communication skills to enhance health and well being.
Performance indicators
- 1. Apply interpersonal relationship skills in a variety of situations involving peers and adults.
- 2. Apply assertive and refusal skills to situation involving pressure to act against personal values.
- 3. Demonstrate healthy ways to express needs, wants, feelings, and respect for self and others.
- 4. Analyze the elements of a healthy interpersonal relationship and apply them in informal and formal settings (i.e., friends, family, work).
