High School Sculpture

1. The student acquires the knowledge and skills necessary to create, to perform, and to respond effectively to the arts.
To meet this standard, the student will:
- 1.1 Demonstrate a working knowledge of art elements and principles: line, value, shape, form, texture, size, balance, movement, rhythm, and contrast.
- 1.2 Recognize historical styles, individual artists, and artistic techniques of representational and non-representational work.
- 1.3 Identify and experiment with different media to include, but not limited to: wire, plaster, clay, cardboard, and found objects.
- 1.4 Identify and choose media for use and function.
2. The student applies the creative process with arts knowledge and skills to reason and solve problems.
To meet this standard, the student will:
- 2.1 Demonstrate knowledge of line and movement
- 2.2 Show a workable knowledge of compositional elements as they relate to three-dimensional form.
- 2.3 Develop an art vocabulary related to tools, materials, techniques, and terminology.
- 2.4 Demonstrate skill in a variety of art processes: additive, subtractive, assemblage, armature construction, finishing, painting.
- 2.5 Demonstrate a knowledge of figure and facial proportion by drawing and sculpting from the model.
- 2.6 Identify historical art styles, artists, and construction techniques and apply these processes to personal art.
- 2.7 Demonstrate the ability to manipulate lines and planes to create movement and balance in form.
3. The student uses at least one of the art forms to communicate ideas and feelings.
To meet this standard, the student will:
- 3.1 Demonstrate the ability to apply knowledge of tools and media to solve a variety of three-dimensional sculpture problems.
- 3.2 Develop the ability to recognize mood represented by linear form and apply to construction.
- 3.3 Recognize impact of color, value, and texture choices and apply knowledge to influence personal response to work.
- 3.4 Develop ability to express feelings, values, and beliefs through their photographs
4. The student understands how the arts connect to other subject areas, life, and work.
To meet this standard, the student will:
- 4.1 Demonstrate an understanding of the elements of art and their relationship to nature.
- 4.2 Identify the portrayal and distortion of the human form in sculpture.
- 4.3 Evaluate personal work and craftsmanship verbally in writing and in groups.
- 4.4 Identify work of different historical periods, artists techniques and materials, and construction related problems.
- 4.5 View visual/video material related to sculpture in public places and the performing artists.
- 4.6 Observe sculpture in public spaces.
- 4.7 Develop an awareness of sculptural uses in our own and other cultures.
