High School Photography

Level 1
1. The student acquires the knowledge and skills necessary to create, to perform, and to respond effectively to the arts.
To meet this standard, the student will:
- 1.1 Acquire a working knowledge of art elements and principles: line, value, color, texture, shape, form, balance, and pattern.
- 1.2 Acquire working knowledge of photography guidelines: simplicity, rule of thirds, and framing
- 1.3 Acquire technical skills in operating and using a camera.
- 1.4 Acquire darkroom skills including: developing black and white film, and printing techniques which includes use of filters, enlargers, and printing.
- 1.5 Develop beginning understandings of the history of photography.
2. The student applies the creative process with arts knowledge and skills to reason and solve problems.
To meet this standard, the student will:
- 2.1 Develop and use a photography vocabulary related to equipment, materials, and techniques.
- 2.2 Produce photographs that demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the elements and principles of design.
- 2.3 Produce photographs that demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the photography guidelines.
- 2.4 Choose appropriate equipment and supplies for specific photo situations (Films gsa/iso, tripod, studio lights, flash, and shutter speeds).
3. The student uses at least one of the art forms to communicate ideas and feelings.
To meet this standard, the student will:
- 3.1 Demonstrate the ability to apply knowledge of equipment and media to solve a variety of photography problems.
- 3.2 Develop the ability to recognize mood in values, shape, form, and line values.
- 3.3 Develop ability to express ideas and communicates with viewers through personal photographs.
4. The student understands how the arts connect to other subject areas, life, and work.
To meet this standard, the student will:
- 4.1 Understand the elements and principles of design and their relationship to photography.
- 4.2 Understand the guidelines and their relationship to photography.
- 4.3 Evaluate personal work verbally and in writing.
- 4.4 Identify the work of different artists and their various techniques.
- 4.5 Listen to speakers in art related careers and schools.
- 4.6 Observe art in public places, advertisements, and mass media.
- 4.7 Observe photography as a means of historical documentation.
