Middle School

1. The student acquires the knowledge and skills necessary to create, to perform, and to respond effectively to the arts.

To meet this standard, the student will:

  • 1.1 Use elements and principles of visual arts.
  • 1.2 Create two- and three-dimensional drawings, paintings, and sculptures .
  • 1.3 Identify art and artists from different historical periods and types of art.
  • 1.4 Develop the ability for critiquing and self-evaluation.
  • 1.5 Identify relationship of positive and negative space.

2. The student applies the creative process with arts knowledge and skills to reason and solve problems.

To meet this standard, the student will:

  • 2.1 Identify how society affects artwork.
  • 2.2 Use clay to make a functional piece of art.

3. The student uses at least one of the art forms to communicate ideas and feelings.

To meet this standard, the student will:

  • 3.1 Develop a self-portrait.
  • 3.2 Respond emotionally and intellectually to artistic works.

4. The student understands how the arts connect to other subject areas, life, and work.

To meet this standard, the student will:

  • 4.1 Investigate careers in art.
  • 4.2 Identify design in nature and industry.
  • 4.3 Use commercial or advertising techniques.
