High School Advanced Pottery

Levels 2, 3, & 4
1. The student acquires the knowledge and skills necessary to create, to perform, and to respond effectively to the arts.
To meet this standard, the student will:
- 1.1 Use previously acquired knowledge and skills to refine techniques and create an individualized curriculum to solve problems and express ideas through the creation of pottery.
- 1.2 Demonstrate an expanded vocabulary of pottery terms.
- 1.3 Demonstrate advanced throwing and hand-building techniques.
2. The student applies the creative process with arts knowledge and skills to reason and solve problems.
To meet this standard, the student will:
- 2.1 Demonstrate advanced application and expansion of the art concepts incorporating: line, value, texture, and form.
- 2.2 Utilize advanced building techniques and skills in creating pottery.
- 2.3 Apply knowledge of advanced glazing techniques.
3. The student uses at least one of the art forms to communicate ideas and feelings.
To meet this standard, the student will:
- 3.1 Communicates ideas and feelings through the use of glaze and form.
- 3.2 Applies concepts of line and form to enhance feeling and ideas in pottery.
- 3.3 Develops a specific style in the creation of pottery.
4. The student understands how the arts connect to other subject areas, life, and work.
To meet this standard, the student will:
- 4.1 Develops an understanding of the job opportunities for potters through job shadowing, guest speakers, and site visits to private studios and institutions.
- 4.2 Develops an understanding and an appreciation for pottery in the home, workplace, and as an art form.
