Draft - Global Art

This course is designed to explore and investigate various world cultures and their contributions to art.

1. The student acquires the knowledge and skills necessary to create, to perform, and to respond effectively to the arts.

To meet this standard, the student will:

  • 1.1 Demonstrate an understanding of the contributions of various world cultures and it's contribution to the world of art.
  • 1.2 Demonstrate an understanding of cultural diversity from the view of art.

2. The student applies the creative process with arts knowledge and skills to reason and solve problems.

To meet this standard, the student will:
  • 2.1 Adapt the knowledge acquired from the various cultures explored and applies the knowledge in producing works of art based upon the specific culture.
  • 2.2 Utilize reasoning and problem solving skills to evaluate personal work in basic art concepts.
  • 2.3 Utilize various art vocabulary and compositional elements related to the creation of art work.

3. The student uses at least one of the art forms to communicate ideas and feelings.

To meet this standard, the student will:

  • 3.1 Create art work based upon the contributions of other cultures which results in the expression of personal interpretation of what the culture was expresssing.
  • 3.2 Utilize the concepts of line, form, space, value, and texture to communicate personal ideas in the creation of art work.

4. The student understands how the arts connect to other subject areas, life, and work.

To meet this standard, the student will:

  • 4.1 Demonstrate an awareness of the intertwined connection between art produced by various cultures and the culture's influences on art in our society.
  • 4.2 Identify the various historical periods and techniques of art produced by various cultures.
  • 4.3 Visit museums, art galleries, and lectures to view and learn about art contributions from various cultures.
