Calligraphy

1. The student acquires the knowledge and skills necessary to create, to perform, and to respond effectively to the arts. To meet this standard, the student will:
- 1.1 Demonstrates the ability to use a calligraphy pen.
- 1.2 Calligraphies with related materials such as sumi brush, flat brush, steel brush, markers, and foam brush using guidelines and freehand.
- 1.3 Recognizes and is able to use upper and lower case Italic, Old English, and Uncial calligraphy styles.
2. The student applies the creative process with arts knowledge and skills to reason and solve problems. To meet this standard, the student will:
- 2.1 Create calligraphy art by experimenting with pens, brushes, nibs, markers, steel brushes, guides, and sponges.
- 2.2 Collect a variety of calligraphy examples in advertising, newspapers, and books.
- 2.3 Employ the use of the italic alphabet to create a final work of art integrating drawing techniques.
- 2.4 Create a final work using the Old English alphabet using historical embellished caps.
- 2.5 Use the Uncial alphabet to create final works for personalized applications.
3. The student uses at least one of the art forms to communicate ideas and feelings. To meet this standard, the student will:
- 3.1 Coordinate an alphabet style with related historical, contemporary, and personal, writing to create calligraphy art.
- 3.2 Demonstrate the ability to develop his or her own calligraphy style
4. The student understands how the arts connect to other subject areas, life, and work. To meet this standard, the student will:
- 4.1 Develop the ability to evaluate the use of calligraphy style used through observation in books, advertising, and society.
- 4.2 Recognize the function of calligraphy by using this art form to provide service to someone in the community.
