Sixth Grade Learning Expectations
The learning expectations listed below are for sixth grade. Students will be assessed based on their progress toward meeting these grade-level expectations.
Visual Art Expectations
1. The student acquires the knowledge and skills necessary to create, to perform, and to respond effectively to the visual arts.
- 1.1 Creates, presents, and evaluates visual artwork
- 1.2 Understands and applies the concepts and vocabulary of line, shape/form, texture, color, space, balance, and unity
2. The student applies the creative process with visual arts knowledge and skills to reason and solve problems.
- 2.1 Consistently uses the senses to connect visual art to things they represent
- 2.2 Selects works of visual art by others for ideas
3. The student uses visual art to communicate ideas and feelings.
- 3.1 Understands how visual art can be used for widely different functions
- 3.2 Recognizes and analyzes the meaning and personal relevance of visual art in media messages
4. The student understands how visual art connects to other subject areas, life, and work.
- 4.1 Includes visual art as an integral part of a classroom presentation or a report
- 4.2 Participates in discussions about the application of visual art skills in careers
