Music Expo

7th Grade
A 9-week or 12-week course that is part of a rotation between Music, Visual Art, and Home and Family Life.
1. The student acquires the knowledge and skills necessary to create, to perform, and to respond effectively to the arts. To meet this standard, the student will:
- 1. Knows basic musical vocabulary chosen from the following: dynamics, notation, pedagogy, musical technique, genre, harmony, form
- 2. Demonstrates the two-way connectivity between music and the culture in which it resides
- 3. Uses basic musical skills and creativity to construct original music compositions
- 4. Uses vocabulary and technique to solve problems, evaluates, adjusts, and expresses ideas regarding musical samples that are heard, performed, or created
- 5. Learns, practices, and evaluates musical technique to improve
2. The student applies the creative process with arts knowledge and skills to reason and solve problems. To meet this standard, the student will:
- 1. Uses musical criteria to evaluate personal or others' musical performances in written or oral form
- 2. Evaluates the quality and effectiveness of music that has been read and/or heard
3. The student uses at least one of the art forms to communicate ideas and feelings. To meet this standard, the student will:
- 1. Uses music to convey their idea or emotion
- 2. Analyzes and creates music for a wide variety of purposes and audiences
4. The student understands how the arts connect to other subject areas, life, and work. To meet this standard, the student will:
- 1. Demonstrates knowledge of the relationship between music and other curricular areas
- 2. Demonstrates an awareness of the effect of music on personal daily life
- 3. Explores vocational and avocational musical opportunities for the future
