High School

1. The student acquires the knowledge and skills necessary to create, to perform, and to respond effectively to the arts. To meet this standard, the student will:

  • 1.1 Sight read music containing: whole, half, eighth, dotted quarter notes, and the corresponding rests.
  • 1.2 Sight read 3-part traditional chorales and folk music.
  • 1.3 Interpret and perform traditional musical symbols (i.e., dynamics, articulation, and tempo markings).
  • 1.4 Sing with proper vocal production: breath support, phonation, attack, and tone placement.

2. The student applies the creative process with arts knowledge and skills to reason and solve problems. To meet this standard, the student will:

  • 2.1 Recognize inaccuracies in intonation, rhythm, tempo, and dynamics.
  • 2.2 Develop critical listening skills.

3. The student uses at least one of the art forms to communicate ideas and feelings. To meet this standard, the student will:

  • 3.1 Communicate the message and/or intent of varied musical styles.

4. The student understands how the arts connect to other subject areas, life, and work. To meet this standard, the student will:

  • 4.1 Demonstrate a sensitive, caring, and cooperative attitude while working within a vocal ensemble.
