Middle School
1. The student acquires the knowledge and skills necessary to create, to perform, and to respond effectively to the arts. To meet this standard, the student will:
- 1. Utilize poise, confidence, energy, body language and vocal expression to portray character
- 2. Articulate the value of sets, sound, lighting, makeup, costumes, props, and special effects in theatrical productions
- 3. Be aware of a variety of theatrical genre: tragedy, comedy and drama
2. The student applies the creative process with arts knowledge and skills to reason and solve problems. To meet this standard, the student will:
- 1. Follow the basic steps for blocking, directing, and synchronizing sound and action
- 2. Apply basic theater terminology in order to portray scripted material
- 3. Analyze and critique self and peer performance
3. The student uses at least one of the art forms to communicate ideas and feelings. To meet this standard, the student will:
- 1. Read and analyze plays in order to bring to life plot line and characters
- 2. Create character on stage using verbal and non-verbal techniques
4. The student understands how the arts connect to other subject areas, life, and work. To meet this standard, the student will:
- 1. Display group work skills such as trust, respect, responsibility and pride
- 2. Use theatrical genres to reflect on the universal human condition
