Implementation Time: 60 minutes
Resource(s): Baseball Saved Us by Ken Mochizuki (might need multiple copies)
Materials Needed: T-Chart, pens, pencils
Supporting Literature: Going Solo by Roals Dahl, Lyddie by Katherine Patterson, Dragon Wings by Lawrence Yep, Number The Stars by Lois Lowry, Ellis Island

LEARNER OUTCOME(S)(Goal 4)
The Learner will become an effective communicator through interpretation of point of view and empathy in relation to people from different cultures.
PROCEDURE
- 1. Covering title and
author of book, have students make predictions and record.
- 2. Teacher asks the question (write question on oveerhead, board, etc.) "Imagine you are the main character in the story, describe your feelings."
- 3. Read the book, Baseball Saved Us, by Ken Mochizuki.
- 4. Students record on a T-chart feelings and supporting evidence from text. Students then write a personal reflection and share.
- 2. Teacher asks the question (write question on oveerhead, board, etc.) "Imagine you are the main character in the story, describe your feelings."
CLOSURE/ASSESSMENT
As a class, teacher reviews steps for assessing T-chart using this assessment, students will work in pairs. Pairs will provide feedback to one another.
