Kindergarten Learning Expectations

The learning expectations listed below are for kindergarten. Students will be assessed based on their progress toward meeting these grade-level expectations.

Physical Education Expectations

1. The student acquires the knowledge and skills necessary to maintain an active life: movement, physical fitness, and nutrition.

  • 1.1 Begins to demonstrate a variety of locomotor skills in isolation
  • 1.2 Begins to demonstrate a variety of non-locomotor skills in isolation
  • 1.3 Begins to know the safety rules for physical education
  • 1.4 Begins to learn to share equipment in all activities
  • 1.5 Begins to learn the effects of exercise on his/her body (heart rate, pacing)
  • 1.6 Begins to understand why it is important to be physically active outside of class
  • 1.7 Understands the effects of healthy vs. unhealthy foods on his/her body
  • 1.8 Names one positive benefit of regular exercise and proper nutrition

2. The student effectively analyzes health and safety information to develop health and fitness plans based on life goals.

  • 2.1 Begins to understand the benefits of an active lifestyle
  • 2.2 Begins to understand why it is important to be healthy
  • 2.3 Identifies one physical activity that he or she participates in for fun outside of the classroom
