Fifth Grade Learning Expectations

The learning expectations listed below are for fifth grade. Students will be assessed based on their progress toward meeting these grade-level expectations.

Music Expectations

1. The student acquires the knowledge and skills necessary to create, to perform, and to respond effectively to the music.

  • 1.1 Performs the following musical skills: reads and performs rhythmic and melodic notation which include syncopation; sings or plays a major scale (C, F, G); identifies and creates Rondo form; and performs dynamic markings in music.

2. The student applies the creative process with music knowledge and skills to reason and solve problems.

  • 2.1 Uses musical knowledge and vocabulary to identify and describe the style and genre of musical works.
  • 2.2 Practices presentation, craftsmanship, and evaluation skills by participating in small and large-group creative activities.

3. The student uses music to communicate ideas and feelings.

  • 3.1 Uses the creative process and acquired skills to compose.

4. The student understands how music connects to other subject areas, life, and work.

  • 4.1 Explores the relationships of music and United States History.
