Third Grade Learning Expectations

The learning expectations listed below are for third grade. Students will be assessed based on their progress toward meeting these grade-level expectations. Promotion will be based on the mastery of the reading expectations.

Visual Art Expectations

1. The student acquires the knowledge and skills necessary to create, to perform, and to respond effectively to the visual arts.

  • 1.1 Understands and applies the concepts and vocabulary of line, color, shape/form, texture, space, and mood
  • 1.2 Begins to create, present, and evaluate visual artwork

2. The student applies the creative process with arts knowledge and skills to reason and solve problems.

  • 2.1 Explores using the senses, to connect visual art to things they represent
  • 2.2 Explores works of visual art by others for ideas

3. The student uses visual art to communicate ideas and feelings.

  • 3.1 Begins to explore how visual art can be used for widely different functions
  • 3.2 Uses imagination and creativity to express ideas or understanding in visual art

4. The student understands how visual art connects to other subject areas, life, and work.

  • 4.1 Begins to include visual art as an integral part of a classroom presentation or a report
