Second Grade Learning Expectations

The learning expectations listed below are for second grade. Students will be assessed based on their progress toward meeting these grade-level expectations.

Social Studies Expectations

The student understands and uses the scientific concepts and principles related to the topics of:

History

• 1.1 Understands that communities change over time (the study of farms, cities, and suburbs)
• 1.2 Comprehends that communities develop their own traditions
• 1.3 Recognizes the development of communities is influenced by technology

Geography

• 2.1 Understands basic map skills
• 2.2 Recognizes oceans, continents and various land forms
• 2.3 Student understands that people meet their needs in different ways
• 2.4 Identifies cultures near and far

Civics

• 3.1 Understands families, schools and communities have rules, rights and responsibilities
• 3.2 Recognizes patriotism and good citizenship
• 3.3 Recognizes that voting is a way to make group decisions
• 3.4 Understands how people work together to meet community needs

Economics

• 4.1 Recognizes goods and services are produced and distributed to supply the needs of a community
• 4.2 Identifies different jobs and services in the their community
• 4.3 Understands the communities make choices concerning their spending, earning, and saving
