Fourth Grade Learning Expectations

The learning expectations listed below are for fourth grade. Students will be assessed based on their progress toward meeting these grade-level expectations.

Physical Education Expectations

1. The student acquires the knowledge and skills necessary to maintain an active life: movement, physical fitness, and nutrition.

  • 1.1 Demonstrates mastery of locomotor skills in combination, in small group activities, or modified games
  • 1.2 Demonstrates proficiency in a variety of non-locomotor skills in small group activities, or modified games
  • 1.3 Begins to assist others students in applying class rules and safety procedures in a variety of games or fitness activities
  • 1.4 Begins to demonstrate sportspersonship and cooperation in a variety of small group activities
  • 1.5 Evaluates own performance based on results of FITNESSGRAM Test using appropriate vocabulary
  • 1.6 Records the amounts of moderate to vigorous physical activity outside of class, and categorizes them into the four areas of Health Related Fitness
  • 1.7 Associates several foods with categories on the Food Guide Pyramid and how they can affect performance
  • 1.8 Begins to understand the importance of regular activity and proper nutrition throughout life

2. The student effectively analyzes health and safety information to develop health and fitness plans based on life goals.

  • 2.1 Begins to understand the relationship between (1) a sedentary lifestyle and a variety of health problems; and (2) the positive benefits of an active lifestyle
  • 2.2 Associates activity levels with certain careers
  • 2.3 Develops a fitness plan regular participation in physical activities
