Fourth Grade Learning Expectations
The learning expectations listed below are for fourth grade. Students will be assessed based on their progress toward meeting these grade-level expectations.
Communication Expectations
1. The student uses listening and observational skills to gain understanding.
- 1. Pays attention while others are talking.
- 2. Listens for main ideas, details, meaning, and relationships.
- 3. Asks questions to clarify content and meaning.
- 4. Paraphrases conversations and information.
2. The student communicates ideas clearly and effectively
- 1. Projects voice well.
- 2. Communicates to small and large groups.
- 3. Uses good posture and eye contact.
- 4. Uses a variety of media and resources to enhance a presentation.
3. The student uses communication strategies and skills to work effectively with others.
- 1. Uses language to interact with others (e.g. compliment, or encourage).
- 2. Contributes to group with suggestions, research, and effort.
- 3. Acknowledges others' ideas and points of view.
- 4. Begins to assume roles or tasks within a group independently.
4. The student analyzes and evaluates the effectiveness of formal and informal communication.
- 1. Establishes and applies criteria for evaluating for evaluating one's own and others' presentations.
- 2. Offers feedback on others' presentations.
- 3. Accepts and applies feedback when appropriate.
- 4. Knows the qualities that make a presentation effective.
- 5. Begins to identify different communication techniques (e.g. persuade, inform, instruct).
