Second Grade Learning Expectations

= Essential Learning 1: The student writes clearly and effectively.

Writing Skill 1.2: Writes about an idea.

Definition of Writing Skill:

The student is able to write on topic for the duration of the paragraph.

Strategies:

  • Given examples of paragraphs that do not stay on the topic, the student identifies those sentence(s) that do not fit.
  • The teacher reads paragraphs to students are who to record those paragraphs that stay on topic and those that do not.
  • Present a mini lesson on strategies for identifying off-topic sentences in student's own writing.

Assessment:

  • Use strategies listed above to assess.
