Reading Grading Guide for 1st Grade

1. The student understands and uses different skills and strategies to read.

1.2 Uses vocabulary strategies to comprehend text.

1.2.1 Uses word and sentence structure to understand reading materials, including prefixes, suffixes, contractions, and simple abbreviations.

1.2.2 Uses a variety of reading strategies to comprehend words and ideas, including self-correcting, re-reading, reading on, and slowing down.

1.2.3 Uses dictionaries, glossaries, and other sources to understand and confirm word meanings.
