Welcome Back! We are thrilled that you and your students have joined us for the 2016-2017 school year. It is such a gift for us to be able to partner with you in your child’s education. We are excited about the positive changes taking place in our school as well as our school district in service of your students.
Exciting things are happening in our school district as we implement our new Strategic Plan that serves as a framework for supporting school improvement efforts that lead to high quality teaching and learning in every classroom. At Brigadoon, we will be working on The Early Years: Building the Foundation and The Whole Child: Thriving, Confident, Responsible Individuals. Our team is committed to implementing the new English Language Arts curriculum, communicating daily learning targets to students, increasing opportunities for student talk and voice in the classroom, and progress monitor learning in order meet student’s individual learning needs. We will strive to strengthen our systems that support students’ social and emotional needs through a new school counseling program, community circles, and the implementation of restorative practices.
At Brigadoon, we believe in nurturing a child’s academic, social, and emotional development through explicit teaching, coaching, and mentoring. Creating a supportive class and school community vital to our success. We teach social skills that develop competencies for life long-learning and college and career success such as self-regulation skills, working collaboratively, problem solving, and conflict resolution. Our Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports school-wide systems teach and reinforce expected behaviors and recognize students for regular attendance, achieving academic goals, showing character traits, and demonstrating expected behavior. We begin each and every day by meeting as a school community for morning business, announcements, and student recognition.
Parents are an important part of our learning community and your voice is essential in achieving success for all of our students. We greatly appreciate opportunities for parent partnership, feedback, and leadership and we would like to invite you to become involved at our school. We have many volunteer opportunities in our PTA and we have leadership opportunities on school committees. Parent Coffee events are hosted monthly to provide parents with necessary information, collect feedback from diverse perspectives, and share goals and action plans for school improvement. Parent workshops, family nights, and student-led conferences are great opportunities to partner with the school around your goals for your student’s learning. Please join us for one of our many events or contact our Family Liaison, Shawnte Garrett, at 253-945-2415 for more information about parent partnership opportunities.
We look forward to an amazing year of learning for your student scholar! In Federal Way Public Schools, we strive to give Each Scholar: A Voice, A Dream and A Bright Future!
